Message From Superintendent Aguilar

Dear Pony Express Staff, Parents and Community Members,

I want to thank you for your calls and messages to our staff, inquiring and asking questions about the status of Principal Debra Hetrick. I understand there is a need for more clarity of information and I appreciate the interest you have taken in the school to ask questions and make sure the district is taking all the steps necessary to prepare for a successful 2017-2018 school year.

In response to the questions we have received from multiple parents and staff, I want to inform you that Principal Debra Hetrick has accepted a position at our District Office and will no longer serve as principal. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Hetrick to the Serna Center and thanking her for her service to the Pony Express community.

As we transition to a new principal, the district is committed to ensuring Pony Express’ success and want to take this opportunity to communicate the actions we are taking to ensure the school year gets off to a smooth start. Under my direction, we have taken the following steps:

  • Assigned Retired Principal Dr. Herbert Walls to serve as Interim-Principal while we begin our search for a permanent Principal;
  • Created a job posting to begin the search to fill the position; x Began preparing for a community meeting to seek public input on the desired qualities in a new principal (more details will be shared soon); and
  • Established an expectation to have a new principal in place within the first month of the school year.

 Again, I appreciate the interest to receive more information about this matter and invite you to begin thinking about the qualifications and qualities you would like to see in a new principal. We will be reaching out to you soon with an invitation to participate in a community meeting.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (916) 643-9164. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Jorge A. Aguilar Superintendent ess Elementary School
